SAVE THE
CELL BLOCK

IMG_7813.jpeg

The historic Hill County Jail (operational 1891-1983) was designed by W. C. Dodson, architect of an important sister property, the Historic Hill County Courthouse. The cell block building was awarded a Texas Historical Marker in 1981 and is entered in the National Register of Historic Places.

This cultural and architectural gem requires extensive and costly rehabilitation of the entire property, including roof, walls, floors, ceilings, masonry, foundation, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, landscaping, and drainage. Currently, the building is not equipped for regular visitors and remains closed due to structural challenges. Our executive board, alongside City and County leaders, remains hopeful. We have a clear vision for the future and a dedicated community rallying support. With your help, we will persevere in rehabilitating this monument, reprogramming its spaces, and transforming the museum and grounds.
